We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking HR Manager to join our People Operations team and play a central role in supporting, developing and empowering our workforce in Australia. About the Role

As an HR Manager at Google, you will act as a trusted partner to senior leaders, managers and employees across a variety of business units. You will provide strategic guidance across the full employee lifecycle, from talent acquisition and onboarding to performance management, career development and employee relations. Your role carries a high degree of autonomy, allowing you to influence culture, drive engagement and ensure that our people have the support they need to thrive.

You will work closely with People Partners, Centres of Excellence, Legal, Finance and cross-functional teams to deliver consistent and scalable HR solutions. With a strong ability to navigate ambiguity, you will bring clarity, support and sound judgement to complex people matters in a fast-moving environment.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations and Support

  • Provide expert advice to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures and best practice.
  • Resolve employee relations issues with discretion, empathy and a strong understanding of legislation.
  • Conduct investigations where needed, ensuring fairness and adherence to Google’s standards.

Performance and Development

  • Guide managers through performance reviews, development planning and capability building.
  • Identify skills gaps and collaborate with Learning and Development teams to deliver relevant training programmes.
  • Drive a high-performance culture that supports innovation, growth and well-being.

Talent Management and Workforce Planning

  • Partner with leadership to forecast workforce needs, shape organisational design and support succession planning.
  • Contribute to recruitment strategies and help ensure that hiring processes align with Google’s values and business priorities.
  • Support diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

Policy, Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure HR practices comply with Australian employment laws and Google policies.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of HR policies and frameworks.
  • Partner with Legal on sensitive or complex cases, ensuring risks are managed effectively.

Employee Engagement and Culture

  • Support local and global initiatives that strengthen employee engagement and workplace culture.
  • Use data and insights to shape programmes that improve well-being, productivity and overall employee satisfaction.
  • Act as a champion for Google’s mission, values and inclusive culture.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring a blend of strategic capability, people-centred thinking and hands-on HR operational experience. You will be comfortable working in a dynamic environment and possess the confidence to influence leaders at all levels.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive experience in HR management or a senior people operations role within a large or high-growth organisation.
  • Strong understanding of Australian employment legislation and HR best practice.
  • Proven experience handling employee relations matters, including complex investigations.
  • An ability to partner with and influence senior stakeholders with professionalism and clarity.
  • Experience in driving cultural initiatives, organisational change or capability development programmes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and sensitively.
  • A passion for supporting people, solving problems and improving processes.
